It’s not something we expected to say, but we’re going to have to limit our Unreal Tournament 3 preview somewhat to prevent, wait for it, spoilers. Spoilers of the narrative variety, that is. There’s actually a plot in this game, following a character named Reaper. He had his colony wiped out by a fearsome alien race known as the Necris.

They say war is hell. Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes you to the very depths of Hades. The enemies are smarter, the weapons are deadlier, and the grenades all too plentiful. COD4 will shake loose your fillings and have you begging for more.

Infinity Ward was born out of the success of retelling some of the greatest battles in World War II. The company has become synonymous with the virtual beach at Normandy. So it was quite a gamble to break from the comfort zone of Nazi-occupied Europe and leap into present day. The gamble paid off. Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and every other military-based shooter has been put on notice. There is a new standard to judge this sub-genre and it is Call of Duty 4.

To work as a team and overcome a resisting force is a satisfying pursuit in any endeavor, assuming it’s not too depraved an activity, at which point it could just get gross and awkward. Such a notion forms the crux of any team sport like hockey, football, or soccer.

But let’s imagine, for a moment, that you introduce guns to professional sports. Now, outfit one team in futuristic body armor, call in a biomechanical alien race known as the Strogg, expand the field of play to a vast reach of terrain, and drop in tanks and attack helicopters.

More or less, this is the essence of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and its ability to keep that team versus team competitive spirit intact is why it succeeds.

Personally I’m not a fancy about this game, but if you are online game fan its an excellence game! But please try the demo before you buy.
